Matthew 5:1 Message
"When Jesus saw His ministry draw huge crowds, He climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to Him, the committed, climbed with Him."
The committed climbed with Him.
The committed. Those determined to finish the task.
We always expect easy, not effort. It takes resolution to gain the heights.
I am loathe to make such an endeavor on hot, muggy days or when I am worn from the other demands of burdens or thirst.
And I am notoriously out of breath, needing to stop and rest from the exertion of climbing.
One lesson I have learned is that the journey is always easier with a companion.
Those apprentices? They chose the best of escorts. They chose the Master.
Not only did they make a commitment to climb, they climbed WITH Him.
With Him.
He was near. In close proximity. Right there alongside them. Within reach.
Ahhhhh, I can breathe easier already, just thinking about that.
How often I have carried a wearied child up a steep hill. Gladly. For love's sake. Or simply held a hand, encouraging, helping. Often my presence was the only support needed.
Despite the heat or humidity or even the burdens being carried, I want to keep mounting the heights.
Jesus, will You just hold my hand? Please?
