We Want Fruit

I spied raspberry bushes in bloom. I was struck with how often we want fruit without waiting. Without the work.
Fruit is a process.
First weeds must be removed. All of them. Then the soil needs to be prepared. The farmers would plow the soil then harrow it, breaking up the clods. They would permit it to lie fallow for a time, allowing wind and storm to further the affect. Only then was it time to plant. Roots must be established before the plant may flower. And in due season, the fruit would come , ripen and be ready for harvest.
Galatians says that the fruit of the Spirit is goodness.. It is a fruit. How often we want to be good without the process.
First God must pluck the weeds of selfishness and pride. All of them. Then He must till the soil of our hearts, preparing us for goodness. Storms and plows come into our lives, causing us to see our need for Him, to expose our lack. He readies our hearts for the cane . We must want the goodness. Only then does He plant. But our roots must be strong and deep. We must dig into His word. As our hearts are strengthened with the nutrients of truth, the flowers form. And in due season, the fruit.
Fruit is a progression.
For now, I will enjoy this season of flowers.
